UPPER WEST SIDE TRAGEDY
MANHATTAN, NY
4 Fatalities and 20 Injuries
The four-alarm fire was reported shortly before 10:00 a.m. at South Park Towers, a 51-story building with 542 apartments and commercial offices on the lower floors. Four people lost their lives in the smoke-filled stairwell as they tried to exit the building with flames ten stories below. The fire originated in a 19th floor apartment occupied by the family of child actor Macaulay Culkin whose mother was sued for an estimated $80 million dollars in damages as a result of the incident. T.J. Russo was retained by the insurance company to investigate the cause of the fire and reasoning for the fatalities.
